Ocoee is a historic town located in Polk County, Tennessee, an area long inhabited by the Cherokee people before their forced removal in the 1830s. The name "Ocoee" is derived from a Cherokee word meaning "apricot vine place," referring to the wild passionflower found along the riverbanks.
