Sewanee, located atop the Cumberland Plateau, is steeped in both natural beauty and academic legacy. The region was once inhabited by Indigenous peoples, particularly the Cherokee, who lived and hunted in the mountainous forests for centuries. European-American settlers began moving into the area in the early 1800s.
